Stewardship Reflection for this Sunday

“Therefore, stay awake, for you know neither the day nor the hour.”  – Matthew 25:13

Many of us have put off doing something because we think we are too busy.   We’ve all said, “I’ll do it later when I have time.”  Unfortunately, too many of us apply this attitude to our Faith.  Jesus’ call is urgent, in the here and now, in your current circumstances.  Don’t delay. How is God calling you to use your gifts today?  None of us is guaranteed tomorrow.

Christmas Mass Schedule for 2020

Our Lady of Perpetual Help Fundraiser – through November 30, 2020

Our Lady of Perpetual Help Home (OLPH) was established by the Dominican Sisters of Hawthorne for the care of incurable cancer patients who are unable to pay for care themselves. Shortly after the OLPH home was opened, the OLPH auxiliary was started by a group of Catholic women to support the home. The home is run entirely through donations. In the past, a primary means of soliciting donations for the home was through their annual raffle. However, the raffle had to be cancelled this year due to COVID.  In lieu of raffle sales, the SMMCCW is asking for direct donations through the end of November.

You can submit a donation online with this link or you can mail a donation directly to the auxiliary to the following address:

Barbara Ginn, the current president of the OLPH home auxiliary has long been a supporter of the auxiliary. Barbara learned her love for the home from her mother and grandmother and has been selling OLPH raffle tickets for over 30 years. Barbara is a Lay Carmelite with a hope to serve Christ and help others find a love for this beautiful caring home for terminally ill cancer patients.

Barbara grew up at St. Anthony of Padua parish in west end Atlanta. She attended St. Joseph high school and was a Girl Scout for 11 years. In high school, the Girl Scouts selected her to attend 2 international events where she met other girl scouts from around the world.

She received her bachelors at UGA in Fine Arts/Art Education and taught students in 6th and 7th grades. At the age of 49 she earned her Master’s in Education and spent the next 11 years incorporating art into education while teaching kindergarteners

She and her husband Harry raised 4 children who are grown and have families of their own. Sadly, Harry passed due to Alzheimer’s on July 2, 2011. Please enjoy listening to Barbara explain the OLPH auxiliary  and how you can help!  Click this link to listen: OLPH Auxiliary (the video will download to your computer and you must open it to listen).

Stewardship Reflection for this Sunday

”Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you and utter every kind of evil against you (falsely) because of me.”  – Matthew 5:11

We are all at different points on the path to holiness, on getting to Heaven and becoming a saint.  Part of the journey is being mocked and ridiculed by others.  When this happens, how do you respond?  Do you become silent?  Do you react in anger or do you react with love?  Fortunately, as one Body of Christ, we are united with the saints already in Heaven.  Ask your favorite saint for guidance in defending the Faith.

National Vocation Awareness Week, November 1-6

National Vocation Awareness Week, celebrated November 1-7, 2020 is an annual week-long celebration of the Catholic Church in the United States dedicated to promote vocations to the priesthood, diaconate and consecrated life through prayer and education, and to renew our prayers and support for those who are considering one of these particular vocations.  NVAW began in 1976 when the U. S. bishops designated the 28th Sunday of the year for NVAW.  In 1997, this celebration was moved to coincide with the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord, which falls on January 13 in 2013.  Beginning in 2014, NVAW was moved to the first full week of November.
