In a March 10 decree, Archbishop Gregory J. Hartmayer, OFM Conv., lifted the day of abstinence for Friday, March 19 as it is the Solemnity of St. Joseph.

 
The decree follows:

“The Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence. Abstinence obligates one to abstain from all meats and meat products. It applies to all Catholics who have reached the age of 14. 

This year, the Solemnity of St. Joseph falls on Friday, March 19. The Holy Father, Pope Francis has declared this to be the Year of St. Joseph and so a dispensation is hereby granted to all Catholics in the Archdiocese of Atlanta from the Discipline of Abstinence on March 19, 2021.

Of all the wonderful gifts that God has given to us, the gift of His own Son is truly the greatest.  How can we ever thank God for a gift like that?  God does not ask us to sacrifice our own precious firstborn, but He does ask that we are grateful and generous with our God-given gifts.  That we nurture and develop our gifts, and in gratitude, generously give back with increase our time in prayer, our talent in charitable works and our treasure to support the mission and ministry of our parish and greater Church.

In 2020 the Pastoral Council spent time with the ministry heads to better understand their ministries, to understand what is/is not working and what their needs are.  We sought to understand how the Pastoral Council, and the greater parish, can support the ministries and help facilitate their success.   This work is ongoing.  Each member of the Pastoral Council is now assigned to specific ministries to stay in touch and act as a conduit between Father Terry and the ministries.

In 2020 we also worked with Fr. Terry to expand our communication options, which now include Flocknote, YouTube and others.

This summer we will be welcoming new Pastoral Council members under a restructured Pastoral Council model of appointed members.  This model was designed to better benefit from the gifts and talents of our parishioners.   If you are interested in serving on the Pastoral Council, or would like to nominate someone, please contact Patti Kani or Charles Henderson (below) no later than April 30.

How many “gods” do you put before God?    “Idols” do not always take the shape of physical things, things we can touch and feel.   Those are easy to recognize.   Many times they take the form of things we cannot touch and are much harder to spot like pride, power, ego, time, comfort or health.  Pray for God’s help to prune our vices and to grow in virtue.

“After John had been arrested, Jesus came to Galilee proclaiming the gospel of God….” – Mark 1:14

Do you ever think about how difficult it must have been for Jesus to come into Galilee, knowing that John had just been arrested for teaching the same message that Jesus was proclaiming.  It must have taken great love and trust for Jesus to do what the Father had sent Him here on earth to do.  In the same way, following a life of stewardship takes great love and trust from us.  We must be willing to surrender completely to God, trusting that God will always give us all that we need to fulfill His plan for us.

the Stations of the Cross each Friday evening at 7 pm.
